veteran widower becomes volunteer

Mrs. Hairston lost her husband, an Air Force veteran in January 2018. She loves the homebound visits so much that she has become a volunteer with the program.

“They are so therapeutic and VConnections makes you feel like you are part of a big family.” - Mrs. Hairston

As part of VConnections Veterans Reaching out to Veterans initiative, we are proud to announce our Homebound Veterans Visiting Program in Charles County started in March 2018. Our team at VConnections understands that one of the most effective forms of assistance for service members are veterans helping veterans.

This program creates a sense of camaraderie and inclusion. The monthly visit is designed to help veterans avoid social isolation, maintain better health, and age with dignity at home. The visit also brings awareness and connections to federal, state and local veteran and family resources.

Basic Requirements:

  • An initial program introduction and assessment consultation with the family and homebound veteran (veteran consent) is required.
  • A consent and release of liability must be signed prior to the first visit.
  • Monthly visits are offered on Saturdays for 1-hour between 10 am and 1 pm.
  • A family member (21-years or older) or caregiver must be present in the home or facility during the length of the visit.
